Quick tips to keep your wheels turning!

Love your chain.
Cleaning and lubricating is an art that all cyclists should master.
It cannot be too wet but neither should it run dry.
Treat it with your favorite lubricant regularly.
Overshadowed by fancy derailleurs and bling brakes, the chain is almost invisible. All too often we see gears that skip or strange noises caused by this unloved component.
Replace it often but care for it well, and you will reap the benefits!

“On fixed gear bicycles it’s very important to always check the chain tension and the rear wheel alignment, especially on brakeless fixies.
The chain does not have to be too tensioned nor too loose.
In the first case it will ruin the whole transmission (chainring, chain and sprocket) and in the second case, it can escape from the chainring and leave you toothless and brakeless!!!”

“First of all, the saddle needs to be horizontal to the ground. Slopping upwards will probably result in pain in your crotch, slopping down will result in tiredness of the arms/hands.
The height should be more or less at your belt when standing next to the bike, also sitting on the bike and when the pedal is at the lowest point, your leg should be almost fully extended is a good way to determine the right position.

For the number crunchers out there, the measurement from the centre of the bottom bracket to the top of the saddle should be:
Hs = 0,885*Hc
Hs and Hc stand for height of the saddle and inner leg measurement (floor to crotch)…

At this point take your tools and go for a ride and adjust if necessary: even half a centimetre can make a lot of difference!”

“Before renting a bike, check the cables. Make sure that they are not broken or damaged. A disrepaired cable can affect the braking and gear-change mechanism.
Also ensure the correct movement of the chain between the plates and pinions and enjoy the days route with a soft rolling bicycle.”
